Michael Thunderblum, RP

I bring a broad range of experience to my work as a therapist, including supporting individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, working with trauma and grief, and helping people navigate complex emotional and relational challenges. My background also includes work in high-intensity settings, including trauma support and rehabilitation, which has shaped my ability to stay grounded and thoughtful when working with difficult or deeply rooted patterns.

While I support clients experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, and self-esteem concerns, much of my practice focuses on the lasting impact of trauma and the ways it shapes our relationship with ourselves and others. Many of the people I work with struggle with self-criticism, overthinking, emotional disconnection, or feeling that no matter how much they do, it never feels like enough. Together, we work to understand where these patterns began, develop greater self-compassion, and create healthier, more fulfilling relationships.

Amanda Hamer, M.P.H., RP

With over 20 years of experience in the field of mental health, and another 10 beyond that in child development and care, I realize that life happens in many forms, with everyone experiencing and perceiving it differently. I see everyone as an individual whose shoes I can never walk in, but hopefully I can support and walk beside for a time. I bring much experience working with children, youth, and their families. Through holding a therapeutic relationship and counselling, I believe I can support clients in moving beyond a difficult time in life.

My particular experience centred on children, youth, and their families with mental health needs as well as dual diagnoses clients, but over time I have expanded to work with mainly adolescents and adults with anxiety and depression.  I use a cognitive behavioural therapt (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and solution focused therapy approach for much of my work. However, the population that I work with requires me to be eclectic in approach in such a way that I am able to match their needs with tools, strategies and ways of thinking that are new assets to my clients.

My background includes an English diploma in BTEC Nursery Nursing, a Canadian equivalency in Early Childhood Education, a degree in Child and Youth Care, and a Master’s degree in Public Health Studies. I have subsequent certificates in Infant Mental Health and Parenting Capacity, education in child psychoanalysis,  am a certified first responder therapist, as well as being a Registered Psychotherapist.

My practice rests upon two equally important pillars, being client-centered and strengths-based. What this means in the therapy room is that I intentionally create a space that is collaborative, warm, curious, and validating. It also means that I believe in your capacity to overcome the challenges you are facing and will remain by your side, supporting you, until you have reached your goals.

I have a broad background in working with children, teens, and adults dealing with various concerns including anxiety, depression, stress, burnout, identity exploration, and life transitions, as well as supporting neurodiverse individuals. I pull from many different modalities including Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Play Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Therapy, and Narrative Therapy as I believe it to be important to tailor my approach to your needs and your goals.

I believe that therapy is for everyone at any time, not just when you are in crisis or have a diagnosis. In practice, this means I meet you wherever you are at and we create a plan to get you to wherever you want to be because I know life can be challenging and unpredictable. My role may be teacher, guide, or cheerleader (or some combination of the three!), but regardless my goal is to help you not only cope, but thrive, and to move away from fighting and pain towards pleasure and fulfillment.

Outside of the therapy office, I am dedicated to my family and friends. I enjoy being outdoors in nature and keeping my mind active with puzzles and games. I am also a lifelong learner and student, always eager to learn something new!

My Therapeutic Approach

My approach is grounded in Narrative Therapy and Positive Psychology, while also drawing from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Somatic Experiencing, and Gestalt Therapy. In practice, this means we begin by exploring how you make sense of yourself and your experiences—particularly the internal narratives and assumptions that shape how you see the world and your place in it.

From there, we work to understand how these patterns developed, often as adaptive ways of coping, rather than fixed or defining parts of who you are. This creates space to relate to yourself differently—not through constant evaluation or pressure, but with greater awareness and flexibility. Together, we then focus on practical, meaningful shifts that help you move out of stuck patterns and toward a way of living that feels more aligned, grounded, and fulfilling.

Outside of my work, I enjoy spending time with my family, hiking, biking, playing with my dog Bongo, and being consistently disappointed by the Toronto Maple Leafs.
